DESCRIPTION

Bandbox is thrilled to announce the release of our very first jazz title on our expansive vinyl catalog, saxophonist Hadley Caliman’s 1972 classic, 'Iapetus'. Our exclusive pressing of 'Iapetus' marks the first vinyl release of this Pacific Northwest jazz standard in fifty years, and it is a pleasure for all of us at Bandbox to finally bring this classic record back into print after five long decades.

Our exclusive edition of 'Iapetus' is pressed on stylish light blue swirl vinyl and features alternate album art giving the cover a fresh modern look while still maintaining the timeless, elegant quality of ‘70s jazz albums. So the record looks as smooth as it sounds.

Caliman was a renowned sax and flute player around the Seattle area from the late sixties up until his death in 2010. He started out as a sideman for Gerald Wilson and played alongside jazz heavyweights like Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Pete Christlieb, and Johnny Hammond, and performed with music legends Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles on their celebrated 1972 live album, 'Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live!'.

It was as a bandleader where Hadley Caliman’s creativity and musical innovation was able to fully shine through, and he recorded six well-received albums under his own name throughout his long, impressive career. Following his eponymous debut album in 1971, Caliman quickly recorded a follow-up, 'Iapetus,' a musical gem that would remain one of the creative highpoints of his life in jazz.
